Candle Buzz
Q. What is a “wax melt”? A. A wax melt (sometimes called a tart) is basically an intensely scented candle without a wick. Wax melts are warmed and melted in any of a variety of potpourri pots or tart warmers. A tea light candle is placed in the bottom of the warmer and the melt is placed in the bowl on top. As the wax melts it “throws” beautiful fragrance into the air. Wax melts throw more scent than candles and offer more versatility in that they can be removed from the bowl and saved for later use allowing you to change fragrances often and easily.
Q. How do I remove the melt from the bowl?
A. There are 2 easy ways. First you can allow the wax to solidify naturally, (this will take about an hour or so) and then with gentle pressure using a spoon or knife the hardened wax disk will slide out of the bowl. The second option is to allow the wax to become cool to the touch and then place the warmer pot in the freezer for about 5 minutes. This will harden the wax quickly and help it separate from the bowl more easily. Caution: make sure the warmer is cool enough before putting in the freezer or breakage may result.
Q. How long do the melts last?
A. Our melts are made with soy wax. We have found that soy wax will hold more fragrance oil, so our melts last longer than any we have tested. Our waffle packs will throw fragrance for at least 24 hours of use; our soy melt 4 pack will provide at least 44 hours of fragrance. Many of our customers have reported greater burn times, however.
Q. Are your candles scented throughout the entire candle?
A. I hear this question a lot from my local customers, and I understand that many candles on the market do not throw scent after the initial burn session. That would be like eating a hot dog only to find that the last 3 bites have no flavor! The whole thing is made of hot dog just as our whole scented candle is made of scented candle. Because we make all of our soy candles and melts, you don’t pay that extra mark-up that other retailers charge; in other words, we don’t buy candles from a wholesaler and then resell them to our customers, so you get a better value. Again, we have found that soy wax will hold and throw the most fragrance of any wax we have tested, so I know our candles will satisfy from the first hour to the 160th hour.
Q. Why do you use soy wax?
A. It’s the best wax available. See our page “why soy?”.
Q. Do your jar candles tunnel? A. No, not when burned properly. We have tested and tested and tested some more to find the proper wicking for each of our different sized containers. Note: to obtain an even burn and maximum melt pool, you must burn a candle about 1 hour for every inch it is in diameter. For example, our 18 ounce jar is about 4” across so it will require about 3-4 hours of continuous burning to attain a complete melt pool. Here are some pictures of the perfect melt pool!
